Nestling deep in the Oxfordshire countryside, three miles from Wantage is The Plough Pub & Restaurant.
Set in a 17th century timber-framed building under a thatched roof opposite the church in the idyllic village of West Hanney, The Plough is a beacon of community enterprise. Purchased from Punch Taverns in 2015 by a consortium of villagers, the business has been transformed with new staff and menus.
The comprehensive refurbishment is sympathetic to the original fabric of the ancient building. Convenient for both Oxford and Abingdon, The Plough is a great place to escape to for a little peace and tranquillity. Whether it be for a tasty lunch after a walk in the countryside, dinner with family next to the welcoming log fire or a local ale or chilled wine from our varied selection, a warm welcome is guaranteed.
Our status as a Free House gives us access to a wide choice of refreshments. Why not spend pleasant summer days relaxing in our spacious garden? We really do have something for everyone. Fresh, high quality food is produced to exacting standards which are maintained at every stage of the preparation and cooking. This ethos is the driving force for our business and our stated aim is to bring the very best food from field to fork.
In keeping with its ancient traditions, The Plough boasts an Aunt Sally team, a game played mainly in Oxfordshire and some bordering counties since the 17th century. We do have other events planned throughout the year – keep an eye on our website for details. The car park is opposite the pub.
